SDDAA Fetes Past Executive Directors

The San Diego Defense Attorneys Association or SDDAA held their annual past directors’ night, this time with the theme wisdom and mentorship in the face of challenging times. The SDDAA holds the above-mentioned event on an annual basis to show its appreciation to its past executive directors, who helped steer the esteemed criminal lawyer’s organization to where it is now.

Former Executive Director Joanne Reeves says being an Executive Director of a diverse organization like the SDDAA is not easy. “Scheduling events for one could be the hardest as it is not uncommon for our members to have jam packed schedules. Brainstorming and organizing events that would interest our members is another challenge, and so is organizing group educational discounts and seminars,” Reeves explained. Nonetheless Reeves said, being the Executive Director is one of the best albeit most hectic season of her life. International Bar Association

“Running a professional organization can be stressful, but it is fulfilling,” says Mark Strand, another SDDAA former Executive Director. “I was able to build a bigger network and had been happy to be mentoring young criminal lawyers. If we want positive change to happen in the industry then the change has to come from ourselves. Mentoring and leading an organization like the SDDAA can be one’s own personal contribution to the profession,” Strand enthused.

For this year, the SDDAA feted a total of 35 Past Executive Directors, some of whom have passed on already. Those who have passed on have been remembered through a short audio visual presentation detailing the legacy of their leadership of the organization.  American Bar Association

SDDAA current Executive Director Frank Adams says this year they will be carrying out some mentoring sessions where former Executive Directors are invited. “These enrichment seminars are very beneficial especially for young members who may want to learn the ropes from the experts,” Adams shares.

Adams added that these seminars will also be converted into cyber-learning sessions for members who may not be able to physically attend the said learning sessions.
